Arriving Next...

What do you get when 48 buildings between East 100th and East 122nd Street are being sold for approximately $250 million dollars? The obligatory soundbite stating that "East Harlem is THE next place," of course. Read about the upcoming sale here.

Still, the nabe has yet to arrive. This week's CityLimits looks at our very own La Marqueta, "the least patronized municipal market in the city."

bagel, please don't get me wrong, but I really enjoyed your blog more back when you used to write about the neighborhood and its people, culture, and yes, lack of bagels.

Please don't become as real-estate obsessed as everyone else below 96th of this City. Your blog used to be a daily dose of freshness, now it's becoming yet another real estate bore. Sorry if I sound harsh. I just miss the old bagel who wrote about a hamster, a 9-year-old who offered her his protection and many other lovely stories :(

Yes, we all love the stories, so maybe we're yearning for a balance. But, the real estate situation cannot be separated from the realities of the communities of Harlem. If you follow the links Bagel provides to the stories behind her blog, you will often find some of the more personal views of local residents, behind the real estate 'bore'. Bagel is on the pulse, and the reality is often about dollars. We'll all just have to look a bit harder to uncover the stories we seek.

As an aside: I also find it sweet that, much like longtime residents of Harlem, and the vendors at La Marqueta, some of your readers are longing for a bygone era-- to return your blog, and an entire neighborhood to its former glory.

Bagel can't write about the people anymore, because she's secretly "over" them and Harlem.
